Packed and Ready to Go

This weekend Taevy and I had fun packing up thinks to send to Kendi's escort. We've been collecting things for a few months now, and I think we've finally got everything! Our escort asked that we pack "several outfits" in case of blow out problems on the airplane. I'm thinking 5 is "several" right?!

Here are the two bags: The backpack Kendi can wear, and the other little bag that can go in our escort's carryon luggage.

Here are the items in Kendi's backpack:
*Bottle (she still drinks from one and we are a-okay with that)
*Baby Doll
*Kaleidescope
*Play camera
*Bug "car"
*Twirlly light up think-a-ma-jig
*Fish push-button water game
*Pack of 3 princess board books
*Photo Album
*Flash cards (colors, shapes, etc.)
*colored pens
*two mini-play dough
*Notebook for doodling
*booties to keep feet warm in plane
*5 diapers
*1 set plastic pants (in case of pooh problems in the plane)
*2 board books (letters and America/states)
*Coming home outfit (dress, hat, socks)
Here are the items in the carryon bag:
*5 diapers
*care bag (for diaper changes or boo-boos)
*bib
*sweater (in case it's cold on the plane/airports)
*jeans w/ long sleeve shirt and hair barrette
*short sleeve dress and headband
*long pants and long sleeve shirt and headband
*short sleeve dress/capri outfit and headband
*two pairs of shoes (different sizes)
*two pairs of socks
*ladybug harness (just in case...)
Here are the items that I packed in the "care bag" that goes inside the carryon bag:
*24 individually packaged wet ones (for messes, diaper changes, etc.)
*2 pairs of latex gloves (for boo-boos and diaper changes--might have parasites on board!)
*first aid kit (includes bandaids, gauze, neosporin, etc.)
*8 count quart size travel bags (dirty diapers?, a million uses!)
*lotion for her dry skin
So, did I miss anything essential? We also got granola bars and fruit snacks to put in nooks and crannies. Sometimes a snack can make a child happier than anything else. =-)

P.S Thanks to Jennine for sending a box of fall/winter clothes for Kendi!!!! The jeans and the pink/brown Girrafe outfit are both hand-me-downs from fellow Ghana gal, Selina Davidson!

I love your organizational skills !!! Kendi is well outfitted for her escort to bring her home, that is for sure!!! Love her clothes, adn yes, that harness is a great toddler accessory. I've read a lot of discussion about harnesses, but I personally am a believer. If you need one, you know, and when they are cute and functional.that says "I LOVE YOU AND WANT TO PROTECT YOU" to me!!!!
So excited to watch the count down start!

silly tears of joy seeing her home coming SO REAL and all the little cute things
I love that you share these things. I live for them.
I can remember many a conversation about "our" two littles and when they would be "home" someday and who they would be.
What an awesome God we have.
love ya

Based on my recent travel experience I am very impressed with your packing and planning skills!!!! I am envious:-)

BUT... this traveler would recommend more like 10 diapers rather than 5. One diaper per hour on the long plane ride...

Ah Kami! Gotcha! I've got 5 diapers in each bag, for a total of 10. =-) Hee, hee.

So glad she's so close to coming home!

I don't know if you sent off your bags yet but you may want to pull the playdough out. Airlines won't let it on (so I've heard from Ethiopia travelers - apparently it looks like the stuff to make bombs) and having the kids give up the playdough at security has caused many a meltdown. Don't want Kendi crying!

Hello,

I just saw this post we were out of town sorry. We just went through TSA airport security last night and it brought to mind a few things you were packing for Kendi you might want to check on before you send it. I wasn't for sure if the bag for the escort was to be carried on or checked luggage, If it is to be carry on luggage then the lotion will haft to less then 3oz I believe. I also thought about getting the push button fish water game for our kids traveling but I wasn't sure since it was a liquid if TSA would approve and I wanted to sail right through there and didn't want anything that they might slow us down by requiring TSA to search out bag. Can't nwait to see that she is home!!! Praying with you! Jo
